Knex Challenge 2007 By: Deirbhile
On the 21st of November, Barry from the G.M.I.T. in Galway came to our school to do the Knex Challenge with 4th, 5th and 6th Class.
We had to build a castle made out of Knex. We were placed into pairs of two. One group had three people in it but that was all. The castle had to have a drawbridge which could open and close a tower or turrets for protection. It also had to have a staircase or a fire exit connecting the bottom level and a flag pole and a flag to mark the castle. The castle could be no larger than 60 cm long and 60cm wide.
There was no height restriction and we were free to have other features. We only had one hour to build our castle. Some of us needed longer. I was teamed up with Phoebe.
Ours became a bit lopsided but we were able to fix it and got it back into shape. At the end, when all of our models were completed, Barry came around to judge our castles. Barry came to mine and Phoebe’s castle first. We had to tell him what problems we had and how we were able to fix them and then he would give us a score.
After he visited us, he went around to the others. When he had judged us, he went around to the others. After he had finished judging us all, he had to go. We all had a great day!
