The Lost Boot: By Sinéad

We had been fishing one cold day but had caught nothing. We had decided to let out our fishing rods one last time. “I think I’ve caught something” exclaimed Niall. He reeled his rod in gently but to his surprise, there was no fish hanging on the end. Instead, everyone laughed, an old boot was hanging on the end of the rod. Mum and Aóife told Dad that the boot looked like Aóife and Niall’s Grandad’s old boot. “Is it Dad?, is it?”, asked the children. Mum and Dad answered “Yes it looks quite like Grandad’s old boot at his house.”

Mum gave a flask of tea and some sandwiches to the family. Not long after that, they left to go to Grandad’s house with the boot. The children ran straight in to see did the boot they found match grandad’s old one on the shelf. And to no surprise, it did match. The whole family were laughing and feeling very happy, it was wonderful.

Grandad said that he wore these shoes when he was 21. He is now 81. Grandad said he called them his lucky shoes. “Why?” asked the family. “Because I met your grannie in them many years ago” grandad replied. He went on to tell the old time stories of when he met grandma.

One of our teacher’s brothers works in the Google Company in Dublin. In the company they have fair trade shops on every floor and every week they have different country foods and it is all free. Google is supposed to be the best job in the world.

Cliffs of Moher: By Aaron

Last week, our school went to the Cliffs of Moher. On the way over, we passed Kinvara, Ballyvaughan, Fanore, Doolin, Hags Head and then the Cliffs. On the way over, we saw lots of people hill walking, rock climbing and people fishing. We saw the Aran Islands and the light house.

When we got there, we watched a video of all the cliffs and the island around Clare. After, we went to see a 3D film. There were birds on the film, birds like the guillemot, Razorbill, Puffin, Fulmar and Kitti Wake. After, we went to a restaurant to eat our lunch and then when we had eaten, the bigger class had to hold someone’s hand to go up to the cliff. We went up half way and looked down on the water. We went down to the Visitor’s Centre. We had five minutes to look around the shop. Some people bought things and others did not. We went to the bus and half way home we stopped at the shop. It was a good day.

Christmas Child: By Ciara Keane

This year, we are doing an Operation Christmas Child Appeal. This is when you send off a shoe box which you do up and put in for example, a scarf, hat, a teddy and maybe some soft sweets and a notebook and some colours too. Now, you have to put wrapping paper on the box and put the sticker on the top of the box and mark the age and sent it off to some poor place around the world. You would not like to wake up Christmas morning and not have a present. So that’s why we do it, to make a child happy at Christmas

Hurling & Football: By Richie Mitchell

I got up that Thursday morning knowing that we were going to Football. I packed my gear and made sure I had everything in my bag. I went to school. We did a little bit of work and we headed off to Clarinbridge at half ten to play football. We arrived there at last. We were a little bit late so we had to get ready really fast. Our first match was against Athenry boy’s school and second it was Kinvara. It was the best match because we know them well. We played our last match against Ballyglass. We drew with them so that wasn’t that bad. Then, we went home and had no homework because we played so well.

A few days later, we played a hurling blitz. We played the blitz in Craughwell N.S. We played Turloughmore first. We lost, then we played Codewood, we lost as well. Last of all, we played Lissenkye. We lost to them as well. All schools were bigger so we only came for the fun. I want to give a big thanks to Mr.McDonagh and Susan for bringing us to the match and also for bringing us to the shop.

Extension Diary Unveiled: By Gerard

Last year, when I was in Mrs.Costelloe’s class, we did a diary about our new school and we made a diary about it. Mr.McDonagh and Mrs.Costelloe were taking lots of pictures of the people working like J.J. O’Donohue and Valentino and all the people working. If you go on the school website Northampton i.e. you might see pictures of the school.

The Football Blitz and Hurling: By Eve

Just before the Halloween break, we went to a football blitz. We played Oranmore, Lysine Kyle, Clarinbridge and Labane. We had a small team and all the others were big teams. So we were only going for the fun of it. We lost by a point against Oranmore and all the others bet us. We also went to a Hurling blitz. We Played Ballyglass, Kilternian, Doorus and Clarinbridge. We drew with Kilternian and lost by a point against Ballyglass. We had a great day.

Our New Football Coach: By Alan

This year, we have got a new Football Coach from Tyrone. His name is Dez. He is a very good at training us. Every Tuesday at 10.30 a.m., Dez comes to do drills and do some warm ups. Some of the warm ups that we would do are hand passing, scoring points, talking and soloing the ball, sprinting and playing matches. He is also involved in the county board. He also trains the Clarinbridge U21s. They got to the county final but they lost.

Oranmore Quiz: By Sinéad

Four children from each school entered the quiz. On the same week as the quiz, it was book week. We met Doorus and loads of other schools. There were five questions and ten rounds. After the third round, we had juice and a chocolate bar. A school with a navy jumper and red t-shirt won. Northampton had one team entered. Some schools had two teams. The quiz was fun and Susan kindly brought us.

September, October Newsflash: By Tara

The day of the coffee afternoon was Thursday, the 25th of September. Some parents came in early to get the tea and coffee ready. Everybody arrived at 1 o’Clock. Some people brought buns and cakes to have with the tea and coffee. Everybody gave a donation and we collected €460 which we gave to Galway Hospice. Everybody had a great time including the children who got sweets. The day was a great success.
